SPRING is, if not springing, beginning to bounce, and hunting days feel quite different. Longer, lighter, brighter. Sometimes round here, the ground has dried up so much towards the end of the season that tracks have got dusty and scent has evaporated. Not this year. The going in the parts of our country that aren’t Cotswold brash is as deep as it gets, hounds are full of enthusiasm and confidence, and we’ve had a lot of good days. Flynn and I have had a lovely time. Since my last, somewhat melodramatic outpouring (6 February), I haven’t attempted to jump more than a few logs, which he nipped over joyfully.
