To think outside the box is a lot easier said than done, and the thought of working outside our comfort zone sends many of us running in the opposite direction. But innovative thinking can certainly lead to impressive results. Look at Kelly Hoppen’s new home in London, the subject of our cover story (p.66). Before refurbishment, it was a disused auction house with few dividing walls and numerous structural columns. Hoppen turned these features to her advantage, creating an elegant home with a vast open-plan living and dining area perfect for entertaining, the columns framing the space and adding a cathedral-like quality.
