Working to a tight budget, Karen and Andy Laurence got stuck into DIY, transforming a neglected 1950s terrace into a colourful family home

We began looking for a fixer-upper in the local area, as with Andy's background in construction we felt confident to take on a big renovation project. After viewing lots of properties, we found this house which had generous rooms and a big garden. The decor was very much stuck in the 1980s, with dark burgundy carpets and woodchip wallpaper.
