With the plastering done and dried, it’s time for second fix carpentry work to begin, with flooring, doors, skirting and kitchen units to be fitted

As we detailed last month, when plasterers are in a room, basically everybody else has to clear out and leave them to it. Not only will there be board scaffolding and trestles everywhere, but the very nature of their trade means the whole environment of the home will be damp and then, as it dries out, dusty. So it’s a good idea to have a thorough clean up before commencing with the important second fix work and leave walls to dry out completely before considering fixing things to them. The Flooring The upper and intermediate floors will likely have been laid with decking at this stage — either tongue and groove boarding or chipboard. If that’s the final finish, ready to receive carpeting, there’s nothing more to do to them.…
