“Confidence in your architect and contractor is key. You have to interview them when you start to see if they have the same vision and enthusiasm for the project as you do. Although I complain sometimes about the number of plans sent through, I think it’s good to know you’re all singing from the same hymn sheet. “If you are working from afar, get in a routine with the architect and contractor. Emails, photos and conference calls are all easily sent. But you’ve got to double-check everything — all information can be misinterpreted.
