Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) have gained more traction in the UK than any other renewable heating system, partly because of the lower capital cost and the, sometimes dubious, claims made for them. There are two types of ASHP: monobloc and split systems. The monobloc is a single unit, placed outside the house with pipes and cables running into the house. The split system has an evaporator unit outside the house, connected to a condenser unit inside the house. They come in all shapes and sizes, but all external units produce some noise and blow out cold air.
