Wendy and Steven Hunter are self-building an oak frame barn-style home in Herefordshire just four years after completing their first project

Wendy and Steven Hunter have given over the last four years of their lives to self-build. Firstly they launched themselves onto the property ladder by working with Border Oak to build a 130m2 two-bed oak frame cottage in Herefordshire (which featured on the front cover of our January 2017 issue). And now, after just a couple of years living in their first home, they are putting the finishing touches to their second build: an oak frame barn-style house in a village 40 minutes’ away. “We always wanted our first home to be a really beautiful, cosy cottage, but it ended up that the property was just the wrong size for our growing family and it made sense to move on,” Wendy admits. “It was bittersweet, because blood, sweat and tears…
