“You just need to be able to look at these pockets of land, that are in most town and city centres, and find a way to use them,” says Noreen Jaafar, five years on from the moment she and partner Jon Martin conceived a way to use one such plot in the centre of the Cotswold market town of Dursley — by building a literal treehouse.
Yet there’s so much more to the story of the aptly named Treehouse – the four-bed three-storey home that’s nestled within half an acre of woodland – than simply ‘finding a way to use’ the plot. For starters, Noreen and Jon knew that they wanted to adhere to the principles of Passivhaus and were keen to live mortgage-free.
