The two-storey granny flat was turned upside down so that the bedroom moved to the ground floor, and the living areas to the first floor. The windows were reorganised to improve privacy between the two units and the staircase was rebuilt. “We wanted to keep it as a granny flat but we also wanted it to be distinct,” says John. “Jens turned the whole granny flat upside down with the kitchen and living room upstairs and the bedrooms downstairs looking out of the house in the other direction.
