Green homes grant slammed The Green Homes Grant was a “slam dunk fail”, according to a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report, which said the grant badly underperformed, was poorly designed and had a troubled roll-out. The scheme, to fund homeowners to make energy-efficient home improvements, closed to new applications on 31 March, having only been unveiled in September 2020. It helped around 47,500 households rather than the 600,000 envisaged, with just £314m spent against the £1.5b the government had pledged. Dame Meg Hillier, chair of the PAC, said the scheme had failed, delivering “a small fraction of its objectives, either in environmental benefits or the promised new jobs.
