EV charging law announced Self-builders could be affected by a new Building Regulations’ requirement to install electric car charging points in buildings. From 15 June 2022, all new-build homes and buildings in England will be legally required to have electric car charging points, which the government says could deliver up to 145,000 installed charging points each year. The Scottish government is considering similar changes. The new regulations will apply to self-builders and custom-builders who include associated parking within their site boundary. The Department for Transport said that in order to ensure housebuilders do not incur excessive costs, an exemption for new residential properties will be introduced in cases where the installation of a charge point would increase grid connection costs by more than £3,600, although cable routes will still be…
