Exceptional levels of insulation combined with airtightness are crucial factors in achieving Passivhaus standard. So when Jon Martin and his partner Noreen Jaafar began building their award-winning Passivhaus home in Gloucestershire – described by Grand Designs’ Kevin McCloud as a “big, proper, grown-up treehouse” – they chose high performance spray foam insulation from Icynene for their unique and innovative self-build. The house, which is built on three levels, is made up of three larch-clad, steel-framed boxes suspended on 40ft-high steel stilts within a heavily wooded site.
