This new-build home, the Tree-house, is located on a relatively small backland site in central Cambridge, entirely surrounded by Victorian terraces and their back gardens. Given its sensitive context, the house is designed as a compact box that maximises the distance away from the site boundaries while optimising living space towards the south, providing the homeowners with a sunlit usable outdoor space.
On the ground floor, social spaces such as the dining room and living room are located with access to the south-facing front garden. Service spaces such as the utility, kitchen and pantry are located to the north.
