Modern homes feature greater expanses of glazing — is solar control glass the solution to reducing the resulting glare and excessive heat in summer?

The current trend is to increase the glazed area in the home – both new builds and renovations – and to put in more and bigger windows and patio doors. The aim, of course, is to increase that light and airy feel in the house, but with all that sunshine comes an increased potential for overheating. The infrared part of the sunlight passing through glass produces heat in the room and more glass means more heat — a problem that is being addressed by Part O of the Building Regulations.
