Bringing the outside in with plentiful glazing has become a hallmark of the modern home, and rightly so — introducing natural light and views of the garden has never been so paramount. However, if on completion of a self-build or extension project those views resemble the aftermath of Glastonbury festival, it can rather spoil that feeling that you’ve finally crossed the finishing line. I admit, it’s a mistake I’ve made on my own projects; in a bid to get the house habitable, the garden is overlooked. While currently blessed with an established garden, I’m feeling the effects of this during my latest renovation — the recent wet, warm weather has seen an explosion of weeds, overgrown borders and untended beds.
