One of the key things I learned when renovating our home is that managing a big project yourself is not always as straightforward as you think. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m good at organising and can get stuff done, but this only got me so far when trying to liaise with a range of trades on site. We weren’t living in the house while the work was being done and I was only able to be on site first thing in the morning before racing off to work, so sometimes decisions were made in my absence — and I wasn’t always thrilled by the outcome!
