Lack of insulation adding £3.2 billion to UK energy bills New research from the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) has found that poor home insulation is adding £3.2 billion to our energy bills every year. Investment in home insulation was cut by the government in 2013 and, as a result, the rate at which homes are being upgraded is currently at its lowest level for more than a decade. This news is supported by recent data from Which?, highlighting that only 14% of households have made improvements to their home insulation in the last five years. If the rate of insulating homes hadn’t dropped, the ECIU suggests that an additional 11 million homes could have benefited from energy efficiency improvements by now.
