How this famous tank led the Allied war machines in WWII

The first use of the tank as a military weapon was in the First World War at the Battle of the Somme. Armoured vehicles would become a big part of warfare but it wasn’t until the Second World War that they became essential. The most essential of all the Allied tanks was the Sherman. Titled the M4 Medium Tank, it was named after William Tecumseh Sherman, who was a Union general in the American Civil War. It replaced the M3 armoured vehicle and was provided as part of the American Lend-Lease policy to its allies.
