OBJETIVO: CONTROLAR EL MEDITERRÁNEO

EN LOS ÚLTIMOS AÑOS SE VIENE HABLANDO DE RETOMAR EL PROYECTO DE UN TÚNEL BAJO EL ESTRECHO DE GIBRALTAR, O BIEN UNA PRESA-PUENTE QUE MITIGARÍA LOS EFECTOS DEL CALENTAMIENTO GLOBAL EN EL MEDITERRÁNEO, CONTROLANDO EL NIVEL DE LAS AGUAS EN EL ESTRECHO. EL TIEMPO DIRÁ SI ALGUNO DE ESOS PLANES VE LA LUZ. LO CIERTO ES QUE A PRINCIPIOS DEL SIGLO XX SE PRESENTARON VARIOS MEGAPROYECTOS QUE TAMBIÉN TENÍAN A GIBRALTAR EN EL PUNTO DE MIRA Y QUE ASPIRABAN A CERRAR LA COMUNICACIÓN ENTRE LAS AGUAS DEL MEDITERRÁNEO Y EL ATLÁNTICO.

A lo largo del último siglo se han planteado proyectos de tamaño inconmensurable por doquier, y por lo general sin que los aspectos climáticos o ambientales importaran demasiado. Desde el uso de armas atómicas para vaporizar cordilleras o crear puertos artificiales, hasta la creación de presas de tamaño gigantesco. Es más, no solía pensarse que calentar el Ártico, por ejemplo, fuera un gran problema sino más bien una ventaja. Hoy en día muchos sueñan con un Ártico libre de hielos todo el año por el que pueda circular la mayor red de transporte de barcos portacontenedores imaginable. Es algo muy alejado de lo que el sentido común nos dicta, grandes ideas de “geoingeniería” que pasan por encima de los problemas climáticos como si de una apisonadora se tratara. Véase, a modo…
