Phone or moan?

Hot on the heels of Bob Dylan banning phones from his gigs, Steve Sutherland weighs in on the debate about whether or not it’s ok to use your mobile at a concert

You’ve gotta hand it to the old G.O.A.T. He may be 83 and decades past his sell-by date, but Bob Dylan’s still manufacturing headlines. His latest news-grabbing ruse is to ban the use of all mobile phones at the gigs on his November Rough & Rowdy Ways UK tour. Audience members will be required to have their phone zipped into a securely-sealed Yondr pouch on entry to the shows, to be released by staff on exit. Dylan’s not the first musician to come down all draconian on gigphone users. In 2013 Prince decreed his shows were subject to ‘Purple Rules’ which meant, among other things, no pics. When he played at South By Southwest, transgressors were tossed out by security, the grand irony being that the gig was sponsored by…
