Forget Bluetooth and other distractions – Focal’s latest wired offering is aimed squarely at audiophiles

Focal recently released two sets of wired, analogue-only headphones with similar designs: the closed-back Azurys for ‘music lovers on the go’ and the open-back Hadenys for use at home. Mind you, calling them ‘similar’ is a bit redundant, since most of Focal’s headphones employ the same distinctive design, with large oval earpieces and a perforated grille that sports its trademark honeycomb pattern and zig-zag logo. The main thing that sets each model apart is often just the colour, with the Azurys adopting a metallic blue tint based on the mineral azurite. It boasts the same impressive sound and build quality as many of Focal’s more expensive headphones, employing the same 40mm aluminium-magnesium drivers as the £700 Bathys (HFC 500), which provide 15Hz-22kHz frequency response.
