Well respected as a passive design, the Rubicon 6 C brings some serious active firepower to the table

An active wireless version of DALI’s Rubicon 6 (HFC 480) – a bit of an oldie but still taking care of business in passive guise – is an intriguing prospect. There’s a lot to work with. Although standing just the right side of huge (the Rubicon 8), the 6 is nevertheless a substantial, generously furnished design with a 29mm soft dome tweeter, a 17x45mm ribbon tweeter and, housed in a separate internal chamber, two terracotta-coloured wood fibre 165mm mid/bass drivers. It also sports a brace of big-bore, rear-firing bass reflex ports and, with its total of 500 Class D Watts on board, each beautifully made and finished enclosure weighs 45.8kg.
