Redland Purle was formed in the UK in the early 1970s after Redland plc. acquired national waste management operator, ‘Purle Waste Disposal’ from ‘The Purle Group of Companies’. At the time of the acquisition, Purle operated a national fleet of liquid and dry waste collection vehicles. By Timothy Byrne

“Both the rigid and articulated tankers collected either nonhazardous or hazardous wastes.” Once Redland had acquired the business, significant investments were made. The liquid waste fleet grew to 200 tankers making it the largest liquid waste tanker fleet in the UK, consisting of a mixture of 1,600, 1,750 and 3,600 gallon rigid tankers. The 1,600 and 1,750 gallon units were mounted onto either a Ford D’ Series or a Leyland Clydesdale 4x2 16 tonne chassis. Larger 3,600 litre units were mounted onto either Ford D’ Series, AEC Marshall Major, Foden S39, ERF LV, ERF B Series, Volvo F86, Volvo F725 or Leyland Bison 6x4 24 tonne chassis.
