It is one of the most recognizable cars ever built. The second iteration of the front-wheel-drive Cord automobile was a game-changing vehicle in many ways, and despite extremely low production and still fewer survivors, the 1936 810 and 1937 812 — particularly in demure Westchester sedan form — is reasonably priced when its outsized reputation is considered. The 800 series of company namesake E.L. Cord has fascinated the general public and car enthusiasts alike, primarily because of its groundbreaking Streamline Moderne styling by Gordon Buehrig. While the rakishly glamorous open-top Sportsman and Phaeton grabbed headlines, the four-door Westchester was Cord’s best-selling model, representing most of the fewer-than-3,000 examples built; it’s believed around 1,800 survive today.
