GM Announces Historic Investment in EVs GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra announced, January 25, investments intended to “establish GM’s EV leadership” through expanding the company’s battery production in the U.S. and electric-vehicle production capacity in North America. The intended capacity goal is 1 million units by 2025. Those investments are part of a $7 billion package that also includes more than $510 million in existing assembly plants “to upgrade their production capabilities for near-term products.” The project, which affects four plant sites in Michigan, is said to create 4,000 new jobs and retain 1,000 old ones. Three of the sites are near Lansing: Delta Township Assembly, Grand River Assembly, and an unspecified site to host a $2.6-billion battery-making facility for the GM/LG Energy Solution joint project Ultium Cells.
