Journey to the Reservoir It was recess time and Clarence, my sixth-grade classmate, and I met to complete our plans. We sat in the shade of the huge monkey pod tree that stood in the center of the the outdoor stage on the playground. ‘Twas Friday and the details were being finalized for our trip to the restricted reservoir in Nuuanu in search of the exotic “striped barb” (a non-native carp-like fish that was probably introduced into the reservoir by fishermen or hobbyists). My hobby was collecting tropical fish and my collection consisted of wild guppies and swordtails which were easily caught from the nearby streams.
