Trick-or-Treat Catch

I can’t believe I finally got a golden trevally on the fly! The last time I caught one was 25 years ago while using a spinning rod in Kane‘ohe Bay. I am beyond stoked with this beautiful catch! Here’s how it happened. The tide was about 1.1 feet, so we headed to a different flat to fish. As I was anchoring the boat, Sean said to me and Eddie, “There’s a fish tailing.” I looked up and saw a big gold V-shaped tail sticking straight up. The fish was aggressively tailing on the edge of the flat 30 to 40 yards away. I immediately grabbed my fly rod and start making my way toward the tailing golden.
