SOW The heat is on and your soil is aching to grow things. Sow heat lovers such as sunflowers and zinnias from seed and you’ll be amazed at how quickly they bloom, plus you’ll get flowers right until the first frosts. It’s salad season, but lettuces and other leafy greens go bitter in dry soil, so put the plants in a spot where they will get a bit of shade. My favourite leafy green, because it can hack the heat, is perpetual spinach – it looks like silverbeet but has a softer leaf. You can also start sowing winter veges such as cabbages and broccoli. PICK ME! Harvest tomatoes, zucchinis, cucumbers capsicums and beans on the regular as they ripen so that your plants keep working hard to to produce more fruit and…
