PLAN A SUMMER FEAST Once the last frost has passed, you can push play on planting all summer crops, including tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies, zucchinis and beans. Usually this is around Labour Weekend, but if you want to get a head start, put a cloche around them to keep them nice and cosy. You can make one by upcycling a plastic bottle, cutting off the bottom and placing it, lid removed, over young seedlings. Just remember to water them. Now is also a good time to sow crops from seed. Raise tomatoes, chillies, and spring onions in trays of moist potting mix in a bright, sheltered spot such as a glasshouse or conservatory and pot them into individual pots when they have their second set of true leaves.
