Ein Pfad führt gleich hinter der Gartentür an einem Bach entlang, vorbei an Feldern und Wiesen. Blickt man von der Straßenseite auf die vordere Front des Hauses, steht rechts eine alte rote Mühle, das Wahrzeichen des niederländischen Dorfs Retranchement, direkt an der Grenze zu Belgien, wenige Kilometer von dem mondänen Küstenort Knokke-Heist entfernt. „Dort hatte ich in den letzten Jahren viel zu tun“, erzählt der Antwerpener Architekt Mark Mertens von AM Designs.
