THE DAYS OF COMPLICATED CONTOUR are gone, says celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic, the patron saint of the makeup technique. “The new wave of sculpting is refreshingly softer, looks good in daylight, and can be done in one swipe,” he adds. Unlike muddy formulas of the past, the latest contour products are easy to use, come in expansive shades, and can even double as bronzers. “It’s a misconception that contour needs to be gray,” says celebrity makeup artist Danessa Myricks, noting that slightly warmer hues are actually the best option for deeper skin tones. A good rule of thumb when choosing a contour color is to pick one that’s about two shades darker than your foundation, says Dedivanovic.
