It was a Friday night, January 9, 1959, that a good-looking cowboy first rode into our living rooms as trail-driving Segundo Rowdy Yates on TV’s new Western series Rawhide. Little did we know that Clint Eastwood, as Rowdy Yates, would go on to become a superstar. The hour-long black and white adult TV Western series was on CBS for eight seasons with 217 episodes, becoming the sixth longest-running TV Western. It most likely would have run longer, but leading man Eric Fleming tragically drowned while making a movie in the offseason. The theme song “Rawhide” sung by Frankie Laine became a big hit.
