Will Mexico be able to sue gun manufacturers?

The federal appeals court in Boston overturned an earlier 2022 decision, ruling that the Mexican government would have no legal preclusion from suing major U.S. guns manufacturers for damages. The lawsuit was filed by Mexico in 2021, seeking $10 billion against major guns manufacturers, including Smith & Wesson, Colt and Glock, accused of marketing their products in ways that enable cartel criminals of drugs to (illegally) purchase such guns and use them to commit crimes in the country. The judges of first instance had found that the case was inadmissible because it conflicted with the Protection of lawful commerce in arms act, but the judges of appeal held that the case brought by Mexico (the first filed by a foreign government) is exempt from the ban established by the Plcaa.…
