THINNING HAIR IS a sensitive topic. While we don’t tend to talk about it openly, it turns out that many of us are suffering quietly. According to the NHS, eight million women in the UK experience hair loss, while male pattern hair loss affects 85% of men. As dermatologist Dr Beibei Du-Harpur explains, hair operates on ‘a cycle of growth and rest. When your body goes through some sort of stressor, such as viral illness, childbirth or stress, more follicles may exit the growth phase faster. This can manifest as shedding of hair.’ While it can be distressing, this type of hair loss is temporary. ‘There is no loss of follicles, so the hair should eventually all regrow, but there may be a period where your hair will appear thinner.’…
