COMPOST COMPOSURE Composting isn’t rocket science — but it is science. Merely chucking your vegie scraps in a pile in the corner of the garden without much thought can be a recipe for … well, a stinky pile of vegie scraps. You need the right ingredients. Fix it: Mix up your greens (vegie scraps, lawn clippings etc) and browns (leaves, wood chippings etc) together at a ratio of approximately 50/50. Compost needs heat and moisture. Chop it up finely and add a compost activator like manure. The pile also needs to be turned to add air so you’ll have happy, beneficial bacteria. IT’S ALL IN THE TIMING If you water during the heat of the day it evaporates more, so less H2 O will reach the root zone where it’s needed most. Another tip:…
