Native to the woodlands of Europe, bluebells are celebrated in early spring when carpets of these lovely flowers bloom under still-bare trees. Walking in a bluebell wood is high on the bucket list for garden tourists, especially those visiting the UK in late April and early May, the Northern Hemisphere spring. The bluebell native to England and other parts of Europe is known as English bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta), a dainty flower with curved stems hung with blue bell-shaped flowers. They thrive under the canopy of deciduous trees, which provide the plant with winter and spring sun and shade in summer. In native woodlands, there can be literally millions of bulbs in flower.
