WHO IS GREENING OUR WORLD AND HOW THEY ARE DOING IT

PARKS AND RESPIRATION A recent global study looked at whether urban parks promote the health of our ecosystems as much as pristine natural reserves do — and, perhaps surprisingly, the answer was a resounding yes. Ecologists from Sydney’s UNSW and multiple other institutions compared 56 green spaces from around the world with nearby natural environments. They examined 23 different “services” the soil and plants from each space offered surrounding ecosystems, from water retention and carbon capture to nutrient recycling and pathogen control.
