Summer! No one looks forward to those days when the temperature goes through the roof and you hesitate to venture outdoors. Your feathered pals don’t have our creature comforts — so how are they faring? If you’ve had poultry for a few years, you’ll know the heatwave drill: keep drinking water palatable and ensure there’s moist soil or litter for the birds to hunker down in. Keep plastic bottles of frozen water in your freezer which, when popped into poultry drinkers, will lower water temperature. There will be a lot more going on with the flock than dry throats and hot bodies. But don’t panic; you probably have the means to reduce the effects of high temperatures in the orchard or vegie garden. Much of the fruit and veg we enjoy is rich in compounds…
