If you want a pretty, long-flowering, low-maintenance flowering plant to brighten up your garden, then dwarf alstroemeria may just be what you’re after.
Marketed as princess lily, this elegant perennial is just 30cm high with lilylike flowers in colours that range from orange, yellow and apricot tones to pink, red, purple and white, many with secondary colours and interesting striped patterns on their petals.
Alstroemeria really does flower nonstop, with a peak from late spring to autumn, and thrives in every climate.
Taller growers also make excellent cut flowers and are just as easy to grow as their dwarf sisters. Picked for a vase, alstroemerias last two to three weeks.
