Common names: Motorbike frog, Moore’s frog, western green tree frog Scientific name: Ranoidea moorei The motorbike frog is born to be wild. The populous species gets its common name from the male’s mating call, which sounds a lot like that of a human bikie: the grinding pock and roar of a Harley-Davidson changing up through the gears. Though described as a tree frog, R. moorei is primarily a ground dweller that frequents the swamps, ponds and other waterways of the southwest region of Western Australia. It wears an impressive camouflage of brown, green and gold that certainly marks this easy rider out from the black leather sported by motorcycle gangs. But once it gets its motor running it can be heard all over Perth.…
