Bright fluffy chicks are so gorgeous, it’s such a pity they have to grow up and become adults. Such littlies don’t just appear by magic: the chook keeper as well as the breeding flock contribute to the chickens’ vitality and hearty health. Raising chicks has some parallels with caring for babies. Chicks too can be dependent on your time and involvement for their wellbeing. Their bedding and utensils must be kept scrupulously clean, regular warmth is required along with plenty of sleep and they need a special diet. The big difference is they’re off your hands after a few months! GETTING READY The best time for chicks is around late spring to early summer.
