Mention the word Hamburgh and what springs to mind for many people is an image of the sensational Silver Spangled Hamburgh. But there are other colour varieties as well: Gold Spangled, Silver and Gold Pencilled plus solid colours like black, white and blue. And you have the option of standard or bantam-sized birds. Hamburgh fowl are best described as a tribe. While various members share the same name and a similar appearance they actually have very different origins. The Spangled and solid-coloured varieties have an English background while the Pencilled varieties hail from the continent. We’ll probably never discover exactly how this came to be.
