Along, cool drink of water is perfect for quenching your thirst on a hot day — and poultry also relish a cool drink. It’s well known that they can survive days without eating but a paucity of water for just hours can have detrimental effects, especially in hot weather. Without water, food can’t pass from the crop, the likelihood of thin-shelled eggs will increase and egg output may be affected, as eggs are 65 per cent water. And that’s being without water for just a few hours. When water is absent for longer periods, moulting can be triggered but organs are likely damaged, often resulting in death.
