There are some stunning-looking breeds of fowl but it’s the crested ones that take the cake. Some have the elegance of a fashion model; others just look comical. That they’re in a class of their own goes without saying. Crests come in a variety of sizes and shapes, from the full pompom sported by Silkies and Polish to small tufts of feathers growing rearwards as on Araucana and Cream Legbar and the exotic helmet-shaped crest of the Appenzeller. You want them all? Deciding to take on a crested breed involves an evaluation of your poultry setup and the time available to care for these special birds.
