CAVIAR LIME
Finger limes are endemic to Australia’s east coast, particularly around northern New South Wales and southeast Queensland, where the plants are also grown commercially. Six species of citrus are native to Australia but it is Citrus australasica, the finger lime, that has been developed into a delicious fruit for both gardens and horticultural producers. Approach the finger lime with caution as this plant is well armed. Long and wickedly sharp thorns guard the small but delicious, finger-shaped fruits. Pick with care, perhaps wearing gloves. One way to take advantage of this securely defended evergreen shrub — which generally reaches 2–4m in height and width but can grow as high as 6–8m high and up to 5m wide in the wild — is to grow several in a row as a productive and protective…
