WITH SPRING AROUND THE CORNER AND BUD BURST ABOUT TO HAPPEN, IT’S TIME TO PREPARE FOR THE BUSY SEASON

COOL & TEMPERATE VEGIES • In cool zones it’s still unpredictable — a cold snap is not off the menu, so hold off on sowing the warm-season crops such as tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, capsicums, pumpkins, potatoes and zucchini.• In temperate zones, the frosts are hopefully gone for the year so now is the time to plant Asian greens, beetroot, broccoli, celery, leeks, parsnip, peas, radish, rocket and spinach. You could also consider potatoes.• Weather-hardy seeds and seedlings include snow peas, lettuce, spring onions, silverbeet and most herbs. Broad beans are best planted in cool temperate areas.• Other plants to consider at this time include parsley, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower.
