GROWING LADS

Brothers Jacob and Daniel work a one-hectare property in the Perth Hills that contains 1000m2 of vegetable gardens and an aquaponics glasshouse, all of which accounts for the dazzling array of food they grow for their family. It’s a full range of vegetables: beetroot, beans, broccoli, cabbage, capsicum, carrot, cauliflower, chicory, corn, cucumber, lettuce, peas, pumpkin, radish, silverbeet, tomato, turnip and zucchini. The brothers also grow herbs (basil, chives, coriander, gotu kola, parsley, rosemary, sage, thyme, wormwood) and fruit (almond, grapes, mandarin, mulberry, nectarine, orange, Pink Lady apple, pomegranate). Particularly abundant are parsley, tomato and cucumber, which grow well in the raised beds, and basil and capsicum, which thrive in aquaponics.
