The metal doors of Memorial Hall swung open with a bang. Cameras clicked, flashbulbs snapped, and cheering voices called out, “Congratulations!” Many parents and grandparents came to celebrate the graduating class of 1960 at Wyandotte High School. It was a happy time, but it had been a sad year for me. It was a happy time because of graduation, but it was sad because of the loss of my grandpa. I wanted my family and friends to be with me at my graduation, but only my mom came. “Congratulations, son,” she said as she hugged my neck. I wrapped her inside the long black gown.
