WHAT WAS WRONG WITH YOUR ORIGINAL KITCHEN? After buying our 1970s detached house in Kelsall, Cheshire, we realised having a separate kitchen at the front just didn’t work for us as a family. I would be cooking tea and the kids would be shouting through from the living room where they were doing their homework. The north-facing room was dark and narrow, with birch cabinets and multicoloured tiles. And if the dishwasher was open, no one could get past. DID YOU HAVE ANY BIG IDEAS FOR THE NEW DESIGN? Initially, we thought about knocking through to create a large kitchen-living area, but our architect Ben Johns suggested extending and moving the kitchen to the rear instead. A split level now defines this new space, as if everything had been designed…
