In September 1974, Brian Bukantis came up with the idea to start a record collecting publication and call it Goldmine (for obvious reasons). The inaugural issue came out for the holiday season, published in newsprint with a scheduled frequency of bimonthly. Could Bukantis have imagined that 50 years later Goldmine would become one of the longest running music magazines in American publishing history? Who knows, but through a great set of editors over the years, Goldmine never strayed from its initial mission statement — to service the avid music fan’s hobby of collecting records and memorabilia of their favorite artists.
